Maxwell buys two more auto dealerships
Nyle Maxwell, the former mayor of Round Rock, is buying back two auto dealerships he sold to Group 1 Automotive a decade ago.
The transaction includes the Dodge Supercenter in Northwest Austin and the Chrysler-Dodge dealership in Taylor that Maxwell bought in 1986 - the first dealership he owned.
Maxwell became one of Austin’s best-known car dealers. But he sold three dealerships to Houston-based Group 1, a national dealership group, in 1998.
Maxwell became an executive with Group 1, but left the company in 2006, saying he missed the personal interaction with customers.
Maxwell owned Nyle Maxwell Pontiac GMC in Round Rock. His new purchases will be renamed Nyle Maxwell Chrysler Dodge Jeep Supercenter in Northwest Austin and the Nyle Maxwell Chrysler Dodge Jeep The Original in Taylor.
“I’ve always believed it’s important to know your customers, and I was losing that ability,” Maxwell said. “But now I have it back.”
Maxwell was mayor of Round Rock from 2002 to 2008.

Ford touts new Taurus, strong earnings
On a day of strong earnings news for the U.S. automaker, Ford Motor Co. debuted its newly designed 2010 Ford Taurus in Austin Monday.
Ford executive Mike Crowley personally debuted the new, sleeker Taurus at the Barton Creek Resort & Spa Monday morning as part of a national tour.
“We’ve made a big step forward in terms of design from the previous model,” said Crowley, a University of Texas graduate who is now Ford’s group marketing manager for North American cars and crossovers.
On Monday, Ford reported its first year-over-year monthly sales increase in nearly two years, buoyed in part by the federal “cash for clunkers” program.
