I am a woman physician practicing in Nacogdoches.Even though a medical practice is technically a business, I never considered myself a business woman until I opened my medispa earlier this year. There are several cliches about being a business woman, unfortunately, most negative. When almost half th work force in the country is made up by women, I think it is immaterial to even view a business person based on their gender. I think anyone who has a vision and potential to work hard can be a successful business person.

Speaking for myself, I have not experienced any discrimination in my efforts to make a vision become reality. I am sure I am giving my accountant sleepless nights, but I know that hard work never goes unrewarded. These are tough economic times for the nation and the world, but small businesses are opening their doors to customers everyday. This is ultimately going to reap benefits for business people and their communities,as long as we stand by each other and do the right thing.

I cannot say I have not faced challenges in my business ( I face them everyday) but I don’t think i face them because I am a woman. i feel like they are growing pains any new business experiences.

I sincerely want to thank the people of Nacogdoches, who have been so supportive to me from day one, particularly the banking community and Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce.I don’t think anybody is a true success unless they have found balance in life, and my best friend, my husband, constantly helps me find that balance. I am, and always will be thankful to him and our two little sons, who always keep me grounded and remind me where my true priorities lie. Kavita Vyas
