PEOPLE NEED TO MIND THEIR OWN BUISNESS…THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TOKIO STORE…I HAVE BEEN THERE MANY TIMES.. BUNCH OF “OLD” FUDDY DUDDY’S COMPLAINING I SUPPOSE…SOMEONE WHO HASN’T HAD A FUN NIGHT OUT IN MANY YEARS!!!!!

The residents who have lived in Tokio for 50 years have tolerated this for the last 12 years. It has continually gotten worse over the last 5 years. We live in the country for the peace and quiet like everyone else. But every weekend neighbors have to listen to the noise, beer bottles thrown on property and road blockages caused by the store. Pictures of partially nude women have been taken in front of Tokio Store and posted on the internet. No other bar in Mclennan county is furnished a paved parking lot paid by McLennan county tax payers. If the store would build their own parking lot on their own property much of the problem would be resolved.Lowering music a little and picking up trash occasionally is not enough.

You dont suppose recent publicity about West had anything to do with Judge Lewis’s decision do you??? I’m not saying i agree with him by any means but whether he said it or not i promise you it was a strong influence given the timing!!!

The Tokio Store isn’t just a bar, it’s a piece of history. What these people don’t realize is, by destroying this place (and they will now), they’re not only destroying a bar, they’re destroying another piece their own freedom!
Everybody demands the whole world to comply with them, and in doing so they destroy more of freedom of others, which ALWAYS, in turn, backlashes into taking away THEIR freedom too at some point!
STUPID PEOPLE …don’t DESERVE freedom!

These are ridcuious accusations by hypocrites who want to rule and force their beliefs down others throats. Our nation is fast becoming a police state much like Europe just prior to WWII. The owners of Tokio Store are tax paying, moral, understanding, and caring people who do not deserve these ridcuious accustations from these people who live in glass houses. The owner himself has served this country in times of turmoil and war. These hypocrites have attempted to make all this sound like something it is not.The courts need to get a grip and see the light.

I have been to the Tokio bar many times, and not ONCE have I seen unruly behavior. It’s just a good place to go to have a cold beer or soft drink, listen to good music and do a little two-stepping. Everyone there is always very friendly, and the atmosphere is a welcome change of pace, unlike the boring, cookie cutter places found everywhere. It’s rare to find a unique hang out with such a rich history. It’s too bad that the people complaining can’t try to work with Charles & Deborah on finding a compromise, rather than putting such a great place in jeopardy.

What a shame. I do not drink, but I do enjoy the Tokio store when I have a chance to go. If there is such a problem with the store, why didn’t these concerned neighbors raise a ruckus when the store was damaged by storms a few years back? Good grief! The store is so small, it’s not like 200 or 300 people gather there on the weeknd. It’s one night a week folks. Lighten up and let these people earn a living.

The owners of Tokio Store are decent, moral, tax paying citizens of Tokio who have tryed hard to get along with the hypocrite neighbors of Tokio. The owner who has served his country in times of war & turmoil does not deserve these off the wall accusations. Even off duty policemen from different cities ride their motorcycles to Tokio Store and find it a place to relax. Judge needs to reconsider and make a more rational decision about the entire motive of these hypocites.

I wish they’d post the names of the “30” complaintants. There’s 1 for sure thats needed a good butt-whippin for years. The sad thing is that his daddy used to drink beer at the store regularly. I hope his dad is proud of him.

I’m also curious about the “porch” of the store being on county property. If memory serves me right, there are a number of fences in that area that protrude further into the road than the porch of the store. What’s the county going to do about that? I cannot believe that after all these years, people are going to make these folks lose their livlihood. Have any of the neighbors ever been to the store? Maybe they have been asked to leave due to THEIR disorderly conduct. It would be nice to see folks mind their own business. If it is that much of an issue for a few hours on a Saturday night, maybe these neighbors should go down to the store and have their own good time.

Null (see above) and Mike Cook can kiss my a*. Mike Cook’s daddy used to drink beer at the store every day and I bet he’s feeling real proud of Mike right now. I wonder how many of these “Good Neighbors” would feel differently if they were making a dollar or two off the store. They just aren’t smart enough to figure out how to do that, or too damn lazy to try.
BTW, we’ve got a name for guys who don’t like partially nude women. What goes around comes around “Good Buddies”.

The Tokio Store has not moved in decades, the county has just come in and surveyed a few months ago. and “”where is Joe Maskek when you need him? “” There are fence’s of the “complaining NEIGHOBORS” that are on county property make them move there fence’s and lets SEE the NAMES on that patitioin. because “I” was ask to sign that patition and I live “IN ” the City of West not even near Tokio. Did anyone mention that one of the recent bands at Tokio (making noise) was a Bennefit? yes To help a famliy fianincialy OH that was not mentioned? Bottom line i have been to Tokio and they are the Nicest people you could meet. So Tokio Store hire a good lawyer because you have been there for SO long. Yes, it’s pretty sick when a small business looses it’s license over one mad neighbor. The Tokio store has been there for years and has served as a place for 100’s of benefits over the years to help people. As for bikers going there, remember this aint a gathering place for the Hells Angels. Police, Firefighters, EMS, Nurses, Doctors, and other public servents ride on motorcycles on the weekends and have been to that store many a times. As for somebody complaining about urinating going on in the parking lot. Have you ever urinated in your back yard? The store is on a country road and the road has more than one way in or out so traffic is not that big of a problem. Fact is most of the people that go down that road have three alternate routes to go down if needed. There are only about 5 houses if that located on the road were the store in at. Some people will complain about anything fun!

It’s a sad day when “we” lose a ride destination. If this isn’t resolved, I can only hope that more “like-minded” people move into your neighborhood and find thing to complain about toward you.
BTW How can a business that has been operating in the same location for over 100 years suddenly find itself on county right of way?

Well if you fix the parking does that really solve the problems the neighbors are complaining about NO! It is just another form of harrassment. If one angle doesn’t work they find another. So here is a thought… if the beer license is finally taken why not make it BYOB? Oh and another thought wasn’t the comissioner supposed to come up with a parking solution? Such as offering an option for the store to buy the property out in front? Closing on road or if all else failed them having to build new parking…? Last I had heard they were still waiting on county word??

I have had the pleasure of going to Tokio store on many occasions, for many reasons. A group of teachers celebrating a birthday or retirement. Most of whom did not drink, but did enjoy the cozy atmosphere. Benefit after benefit with countless dollars spend on the benefit by the owners. I take my 13 year old daughter in there on Sunday’s for a little music and cards. I have never witnessed any of the behavior that is being reported. The most I ever saw was someone coming into the store already looped and they were quickly refused service and turned away. The owners and staff make you feel like you are at home. I have recently been in there when TABC was called out and it was reported that underage drinking was occurring. I was laughing my @$$ off cause at 44 I was the youngest person in there. On a seperate occassion the Sheriffs department came out over a disturbance…….I wasn’t drinking and had been there for several hours, I must be getting senile. I MISSED IT? We will continue to support the Tokio store with or without alcohol! Keep up the good work, we love you!!

My wife and I are so sorry to hear about this very unjust situation. We live in Arlington, TX now, but we are originally from Waco.
I played in bands (Bandera, Pecos, CrossRoads, Cheyenne and others) in the Waco area for close to 20 years and one of our favorite places to play was always the Tokio Store. It wasn’t a high dollar job, by any stretch of the imagination, and you weren’t going to be heard by hundreds of people at a time, that was for sure. What made it special is that it is an honest-to-God piece of Texas history.
The people that would show up for our gigs ranged from businessmen, to ranchers, to farmers, to families with their children and on and on. There were octagenarians and youngsters, all sitting side-by-side and enjoying a night of Texas music. The place isn’t fancy, but it is real and is dearly loved by generations of Texans, far and wide.
Out of all the years that I visited the Tokio Store, I never once saw a fight. If it got close to it, the owners would intervene and since they pretty much knew everybody in the place, they would calm things down and before you knew it, we were all singing and dancing and passing a good time again.
We came down a couple of months ago to hear our friends with the Heart of Texas Road Gang play at the Tokio Store. It was like we were coming home, even though it had been at least 10 years since we had been there. The owner came out from behind the bar, shook my hand and welcomed us with a genuine smile. That does NOT happen in the DFW area! They took good care of us and we were so impressed by the friendliness of the store’s staff and patrons that we immediately started planning a return visit. We are meeting friends there this weekend, when the Road Gang will be playing again. We’ll be spending our money in YOUR community, so there is yet another reason to keep the store alive… it brings in revenue from all across the state.
Man, I sure hope they aren’t succesful in ruining the store by taking away their ability to make a living by selling a few beers. Don’t we have enough problems these days in keeping our communities going? Why do these “neighbors” all of a sudden find this piece of Texana so distasteful? Why are their complaints against a store that was there LONG before they were even being listened to? If you bought a house by a train track, would you sue the railroad and try to get them to move the tracks because (GASP) trains sometimes make noise at night? Most of us would never dream of doing such a thing, but I guess these people would. I hate to see this type of people in Texas… ones that don’t really understand what being a neighbor is all about, ones that move near a business and then gripe about it and try to close it down.
I and my wife will be there this weekend and we will be making a donation to help with your fight to keep this very important business going for the NEXT 100 years! We (Texans) need mom-and-pop businesses. We need rural places for us city folks to escape to so that we can remember what it’s like to see a broad spectrum of people getting along and partying together. We need places where respect for our elders is not only seen, but expected. We need places where live music can be heard on a very up-close-and-personal basis. We need this piece of OUR history to live on. But mainly, we need more good people, ones that are willing to help raise money for those down on their luck, ones that would give the shirts off their backs if they thought someone truly needed it… people like the Kirkpatricks to keep our great state just that — great.
Hang in there, we’ll be praying for you and the survival of this piece of history that we hold so dear. We’re looking forward to seeing you this weekend.

To the supporters of the Tokio Store (Beer Joint) Let’s have all the fans who frequent the store on Sat & Sun btween the hours of 12PM and 1AM go to each of your own homes. Let them throw trash on your property, race up and down the streets with loud exhausts and play loud, annoying music until late into the night. Let them do this every weekend, even when you are trying to relax and rest. Let’s do this for years. How would you like that? We have tried to resolve the situation but discovered it is hard to reason with some people. We also have rights under the Constitution and have exercised our legal rights.

Wow! Jim Lewis, former McLennan County Commissioner Precinct 2—who USED to take care of country businesses—has now shown where his loyalties lie. What a shame!!!
Additionally, I’m glad to know that “For Real” knows every person that has entered the doors of Tokio General Store. Because I, for one, am NOT a “low life” nor a “drunk” nor am I from West. I am an administrator with a Master’s Degree living in Waco who makes weekly visits to the comfortable atmosphere offered by Tokio. For almost three decades now, I have visited the little slice of “peace on Earth” as a way of getting away from the rat race of the weekly grind. I’ve been there for 40th birthday parties, graduation and send-off gatherings, retirements, and most importantly, benefits for community members in need. I have never known Charles or Deborah to be malicious in any way, form, or fashion, nor have I seen any of the alleged sordid behaviors described by complaintants.
In regards to some of the specific complaints and “demands” being handed out by supposed “neighbors” (please check the definition of what it means to be ‘neighborly’), it is perplexing to me that they cannot recognize what Charles and Deborah have done to try and comply. There were questions about the sewer, it was checked by county officials and given the “ok” but Charles still made improvements to show good faith. There were questions about the noisy music, and efforts have been made to end concerts/benefits at a reasonable hour to again, show good faith. There have been complaints that the old underground gas tanks are “environmentally unsafe” eventhough there has not been gas held in those tanks since the ’70s. They were tested and results showed nothing but H20, but Charles has made arrangements to begin removing the tanks anyway.
The above are just a few of the harassing “complaints” filed by two different households within the area of Tokio General Store. Just two households—not 30 households. There may be 30 names on a petition against the store, but how many of those people live within “hearing” distance of store’s location? Has anyone checked to see how many signatures are on file supporting the store’s continued existance? I think you will find that the scales tip much more in favor of the store and its owners. And as for supporting the county…has anyone done the math on how much revenue the store brings into the county from “out-of-towners?” You think a little parking space between two county roads is a lot to ask for bring in such money??? I think not.
And one person above said that the judge’s decision was made so it is over…we’ll I’m here to tell you, this is one McLennan County voter that says it is FAR from over. Not only has Jim Lewis lost my vote, but I will be giving every ounce of my NON-low life, NON-drunk, HIGHLY EDUCATED self to help fight the fight. Until next time, see you—GLADLY—at Tokio General Store!!!

I have visited the Tokio Store quite frequently in the last couple of months and have always felt safe, comfortable, and welcome. Doesn’t sound like much of an accomplishment? I wouldn’t go anywhere by myself for a long time. What’s amazing about this is these same people who own and operate this establishment know that most of the time I will only drink maybe a couple of Dr. Peppers. My last experience was last Saturday night, they served me my Dr. Pepper, gave me a hug and a smile and believe it or not..served me hors d’oeuvres..yes I said hors d’oeuvres. That is showing class and respect for a customer and your place of business. Two weeks prior to this occasion there was a band who was playing a variety of music, including gospel, me and my children joined in singing those songs as well as several other patrons. Me and my family will continue to visit this establishment not only for the above average service but for all of the wonderful times these good people have shown us. Mr. & Mrs. Kirkpatrick, David, and Stacey, we’ll see you this weekend and many more to come I hope.

It seems to me Tokio Store has been there long before all these roads and neighbors. If the county right of way is 2 foot on their front porch, who was there first? If it was Tokio Store shouldn’t the county pay them for the property or pay them to make the adjustments? Also, these so called neighbors, where they there before the Tokio Store? If so they have right to complain, but I think not. You wouldn’t purchase a home next to Baylor Staduim and complain about game day traffic or noise and expect something to be done about would you? Just my opinion….

My band, like many others have played at Tokio over the years, and have not heard a word about excessive noise, rude behavior, or any other complaint that seem to have come to the fore in recent times. Charles and Deb have always treated us and our friends with respect and we have grown quite fond of them. I hope that something can be worked out, so they can keep a good place going. Yes we too have played benefits and will again if all will just remember to give in a little. To everyone at Tokio, my best to you, and I hope clear minds will prevail so that a central Texas tradition will be allowed to keep on keeping on.

I lived in Tokio for several years back in the 80s. Last year I took my Grandaughter to the store for pictures of where her mother grew up. The owner was as friendly and personable as I remember all the friends I left behind when I was transferred. That store should have an historical marker erected on it. And those Yankee neighbors should pack up their trailers and go back where they came from. That store was there when the county road was a wagon track!

Everyone is missing the point.. no one is shutting the store down or closing it! The owner claims he sells more cold drinks than beer, so losing the liquor license should not matter because it is such a wholesome, enjoyable place to take the kids and family. That is the only thing that has happened. Why would anyone think the neighbors complaining are new arrivals or Yankees or opposed to this “tradition”? I’m sure all the patrons can get together & have some fund raisers and benefit after benefit to pay to put a parking lot on the store property instead of the county’s. Then they can continue to bring in revenue from all over the state. Just because “that is the way it has always been done” does not make it legal. I don’t know of too many other Tokio establishments that are subsidized by the county. The rural places some city folk are “escaping” to party are other people’s homes. You would expect peace & quiet in the”country” not in town as much. So, while at the store respecting elders, let’s respect neighbors too.

I had rather drink whiskey & tequila than beer anyway. So it’s BYOB at Tokio Store…so be it. I hope that Gov. Perry gets the open carry for firearms passed and then we can walk in with a bottle of Wild Turkey and our pistols around our waist in holsters. The point is not being missed. This decision by Judge Lewis is just one more attempt to shut down Tokio. Regardless how much soda, chips, etc., are sold, beer is a portion of the revenue of the store. Anyone with a clue about the nature of how small businesses work and thrive knows that taking away a portion of the revenue is detrimental to its doors staying open. The motivation behind the complaints that have been made really do not center around a sewer, old gas tanks from the ’70s, parking on the road, or even beer bottles…those making the complaints have shown they want the store closed—period—and they will stop at nothing to get what they desire. What a shame!

After reading the many comments here I have come to a conclusion. Seems to me most complaints have to do with, not only the Tokio Store itself but the bikers that congregate there on the weekends. With gas prices through the roof the numbers of bike on the road is increasing very fast. Those “people” who dislike bikes and bikers are going to have to get over it. I ride out to the Tokio Store on occasion and like to bring my 8 year old out there with me. He loves to look at the bikes and get to talk to the people as much I so. He was treated very good by the staff of the store who went out of their way to make sure he was treated as well as any young kid should be. Long story short, the people who cannot see the value in the Tokio Store are short on brains, short on the ability to enjoy life, and long on time. Get a life and get out of mine.

It is a shame that the voice of a few can threaten a family’s business. Especially a business that has been open for over 100 years “BEFORE” the neighbors were even born, much less have a house next door. I would like to see someone move by Wal-Mart and try to shut them down. The Tokio business pays more taxes than the whole neighborhood association put together. As for Judge Lewis, as an elected official, he should keep in mind that there are more votes to be earned from the Tokio Store patrons than the whole neighborhood association, in question!!!!

As for traffic safety on Tokio Loop, Mike Cook posed the biggest threat that any of “us patrons” have seen there. He got mad because of some people on 4wheeler, who were on county property, not his, were riding in the median. So he decided to get into his vehicle and raced down the driveway, rammed his own gate, forcing it open with his vehicle and sped off at a high rate of speed and didn’t stop at the stop sign like a wannabe NASCAR DRIVER!!!!!!! Mike, when it comes to safety, why don’t you set an example for the “wannabe hells angels” as you call them.

Well By so sick of it. The attitudes are NOT all from customers of Tokio Store. I happened to know people that DO NOT go there but have now gotten attitudes simply because they know you and know your motive. You are are a trouble maker and you refuse to use your name here because of the trouble maker and instigator you truly are. You have sucker some of the other neighbors in the area with your own attitude. We know who you are even if you choose to remain anonymous. I am sure that judge Lewis will remember you when it comes election day for him and he has to look for employment.

I’m gonna try to make it out to the Tokio Store….not just because of all the commotion, but because it sound like a piece of true Americana……yes, I ride a motorcycle….and have for 20+ years….the guy who said that bikes are more frequent on the road now-a-days is right….and if gas prices keep going the way they are, you will probably see a lot more…. I was notified about this case by a frequent customer and it sound like a case of discrimination to me (personally as a biker). I take personal offense and am not ashamed to say these comments and put forth my name as a supporter of the history associated with this place of business. If some of the people complaining want to get a hold of me and have a civil discussion, please do so! Signed: Edwin Earl Sellers - Cedar Park, TX

Thanks for making us aware of what horrid neighbors this Texas icon now has. There’s always some self-centered jerk with an agenda out to make everyone else conform to their idealistic, hypocritical boorishness. Sounds like the neighbors around there have just drawn a line in the sand. I hope the patrons of Tokio Store come together and just bring their own booze — so what if it can’t be sold — just charge a cover charge and keep the doors open. I’d pay $20 to get in with no beer just to show people like Mr. Cook that they can’t run the world with their bad attitudes and bossy ways.
Hopefully next election this unfair judge will be looking for a new job.

Hold on folks. We’re all growing donkey ears here…There are always two sides to a tortilla. You know, after YEARS of requesting a neighbor to do the right thing, and he doesn’t, eventually you have to take action; mature, responsible, respectful, LEGAL action. Before a judge makes a decision, he has to listen to both sides—FACTS— of that tortilla. Unfortunately, the business owner failed to indicate he was interested in making any changes that might bring him to a legal status. That’s too bad. It could be fun place, but not at the expense of families, and the peaceful country life we all wish we had. But hey, I hear the Horny Toad in Bosque County is a kick @$$ place to go. Maybe we should all just reconcile, and move on down the line. The blame game is waste of time. Sounds like the making of a good country song. Adios!

To “tu amiga” from one of the owners of the Tokio Store. I can’t tell if that was a for or against! It sounded more like an advertisement for the Horny Toad. We know the owner’s and like them alot. They do have a great place, but, so does Tokio. We are still open and operating and plan on continuing to do so. The day of the hearing I was in surgery in Temple and my husband Charles was being put on a grill. He was upset because he was worried about me and the judge would not do a continuance for the hearing, plus having to listen to the neighbors make it sound like we are horrible people. Everyone has a limit of what they can take and my husband had his that day. He is a disabled vet that has tried to do everything everyone has told us to do and not jump on board with the neighbors smear campaign. If we had been doing anything wrong TABC would have already pulled our license. The neighbors haven’t won anything! We will file our appeal and get this thing straightened out. We have every intention of doing things legally and I hope in a way that will satisfy our neighbors as well as keep Tokio Store up and running. I am only sorry that everyone looks at this as a win-lose situation. We have a lot of history to perserve and have every intention of doing just that. Drop by sometime. Look forward to seeing ya!

Hey tu amiga, I am glad that any business welcomes bikers and that the business is biker friendly. What I don’t like is someone pouring salt into a wound while the wounded is down and bleeding and that is exactly what you are doing. Why bring up the name of another business at times such as this ? I have riden to both places and always enjoyed the ride and the destination. But if your part of the Horney Toad and putting in plugs for that bar at this time then I and a whole lot others will not show up there anymore. You need to clairify yourself on this issue.

Been out to Tokio store many times. Used to work at the Ford house in West many moons ago(lived in Waco). We had us a 72 Mustang Hardtop(traded in the Blazer), 302 motor, bored out 30 over, flattop pistons, solid lifters, 750 double, 351 racing cam, air shocks, etc…. When I would work half days on Saturday, I would take the Stang, then before closing shop, Vince and I would put it on the machine, tune it out just right and take off. Needless to say, it would pin ya to the seat with plenty of throttle left. We would cruise down 1858 pass Tokio, then back again and would stop off at the store and have a couple of good cold one’s. Shoot, sometimes we would converse with whoever, even have a few with the Sheriff back then. Rode out there many times on the way to Lake Whitney and parts beyond. Real nice down to earth folks that would welcome ya with a handshake or a hug. Haven’t been there in many years now(live in Austin now) but will stop by soon, I promise.

I agree with Crash. If the Horny Toad is taking advantage of Tokio Store during this time of misfortune then the word needs to go out to all bikers about this. The Horny Toad will not be a kick a* place to go by no means. Let’s see your response tu amiga.

Hey Michelle - It doesn’t matter to me or the people who I ride with that we can’t buy beer there, but it does matter to the people who are trying to make a living by owning the store. They need the income from beer sales to stay viable. I guarantee you there will still be a majority of folks going there even if they have to buy alcohol elsewhere or even do without alcohol. Anyone who has any sense knows it’s not about the alcohol, but about being around other people with common interests and who have a zest for life. That has got to be the most ridiculous statement I’ve ever heard “GOD forbid they can’t by more alcohol to kill more innocent people!!!!!”. Are you stupid or what? Well obviously you are, you can’t even spell BUY. Not one person I ride with, have ever ridden with or ever known to ride a bike has killed anyone innocent or not. It’s the folks in cars that BUY their Keystone by the case at WalMart that you can thank for that. Get a life.

Hey Shoe on the other foot…….IT’S EVEN IN THE STORY DUMB_ss:
QUOTE[Those who are complaining, Kirkpatrick said, are hypocrites. They knew about the 100-plus-year-old store when they moved there, he said.
“They need to live in town,” he said. “They don’t need to live out in the country.”]END QUOTE

Dearest Crash, Rigid, and any other oversensitive adolescents who have misinterpreted my statements and gotten their panties in a wad: I’ll be happy to respond without correcting your spelling or grammatical errors. 1. In no way am I affiliated with ‘The Toad’.It was simply a reference to another fun place. I could have easily mentioned the Broken Spoke…Now please don’t upset those folks in Austin…alright?! It was simply an example. 2. My comments were meant to deal with facts. 3. I didn’t indicate a side as there is no need. That’s part of the problem…It’s the old Hatfield’s and McCoys: “Ere ye one o’ ourn er one o’ thern’?” But what am I doing uselessly trying to be the voice of reason with cowards who use the veil of anonimity (that means nobody knows who you are)to spew forth vomitous ramblings based on no real knowledge of the facts. Deborah: I’m sorry you only got one story from a stressed out man and his lawyer, whom you pay to tell you what you want to hear. Your neighbors are not your enemies. You all must live with respect for each other. That includes following the guidelines of the county. Again,I hope you all can reconcile.

You people make me sick. You hide behind the coattails of a crooked Judge who himself has a dubious record of financial dealings so that you can take money out of the hands of people trying to make a living.
Bottom line……..the Tokio Store was there first. Get over it.
Jim Lewis is wrong. And if McLennan County stands behind him, they are wrong too.

Thanks Maxx, It’s pretty sad when a judge that has an axe to grind with someone else, makes a business go through what Tokio Store has had to, so it can stay open. It would be different if there had been laws broken or violation’s or agency’s sayin shut them down but, no! that’s not the case. You have law abiding citizen’s with neighbors that are upset because they can’t run everyone’s lives and go into a “Win at any cost” mode, because Joe Mashek is running for commissioner and they don’t want him to win. So they attack what they believe to be his watering hole and people who have a sign hanging on their fence saying re-elect Joe Mashek. They even submitted 3 unsigned letters saying their protest was proven to be true because Tokio Store had a sign supporting Joe Mashek. When nothing they did worked, they attacked the store and the Store withstood all charges except for underground tanks that had been there for at least 100 years. The enviornmental agency said they don’t even look for those things anymore becuase the have to many other tanks to inspect and those are off the books as proven when there were no records found. But because The Cooks and Young’s were calling all the time worried they might cause health problems for their children (?), they had to respond. Well, the tanks are gone and nothing blew up so maybe they can rest easier now. The other topic was the parking out front. Well, that has also been taken care of. A parking lot for the Tokio Store has been established, dumpster moved, area cleaned so now what. Hopefully, Judge Lewis will see what instigators these people are and make the right decision to give these people back their license so Tokio will always be the place we remember when we were growing up. Please Judge, don’t let your strong feeling of dislike for Joe Mashek turn this into something it shouldn’t be, a political power play. These people have had good relationships with the residents in this community and will continue to do so unless an injustice of this sort is allowed.
