Letter from Senator Hutchison
Eye on the Road has obtained a copy of Senator Hutchison’s letter to the Federal Highway Administration and TxDOT asking for a 45-day extension to the comment deadline.
TxDOT announced Monday that the deadline would be extended 30 days.
Hutchison said an extended deadline is necessary because of the enormous scope of the TTC project. In addition, she cited a recent analysis by the Texas Farm Bureau that she said was significant enough to warrant the extending the deadline.
Hutchison wrote:
(The) TTC-69 project is a tremendous undertaking and additional time to submit comments would not delay this project. In this spirit, I ask that you give the public 45 additional days, through May 5 2008 to comment on the Tier One DEIS.
The new deadline for comments on the TTC will be April 18.

I support the “NO ACTION ALTERNATIVE”-#1.The TTC is a BAD idea . We need to address current traffic problems* by upgrading our existing roads. TxDOT *must be held accountable for managing our tax dollars efficiently. Why should future generations of Texans’ inherit the bill to give a few politicians and easy ride today? There are numerous documented unconstitutional and illegal acts that involve special interests and lobbying going on between Austin and Capitol Hill. There is nothing environmentally friendly about this monstrosity which is why the scoundrels are so busy trying to convince us that it’s so good. Think about, Cui bono , not we the people. Our historical and cultural past will be marred forever. The whole debate is one sided and unethical and that’s why so many oppose it ? If you love Texas ,I believe it’s time now to stand up and make your voice heard. STOP the TTC !

Have two questions. The first question if this thing passes when would we be notified that they will buy our places? The second question how much will they pay? I currently have realistate for sale. These are questions I get from prospettive buyers.

IW:
Good questions. No matter what happens with the TTC, property acquisition is a long way off.
If the FEIS is approved, TxDOT will still have to prepare a study on the final route of the highway, which will be subject to public scrutiny and in all likelihood, a whole new round of public hearings and input.
If your land is eventually needed by the government, the process of eminent domain requires an independent valuation of your land by a certified assessor. You are entitled to the “fair market price” for your land, and government agencies often have some room to negotiate.
The idea of a “fair market price” for property that isn’t actually for sale, however, raises some thorny philosophical issues. We’ve written more about eminent domain at this blog post. Thanks for reading.

Well, look who is another Gov. Perry (Mr. 39%, Gov. Hair) puppet. Yes, Lufkin’s Mayor Gordon is just another Gov. Perry puppet. Gordon’s support of the TTC is just another sell-out. It is a shame the people of Lufkin do not know who they are electing, before hand. Because he sure is selling them and all of us Texans out.
Wonder how much in kick-backs Gordon is receiving from TxDOT (our tax dollars), Perry’s campaign chest and Spanish Contractors for his support for the TTC?
Think about it, Mr. 39% would not put Gordon on his special committee if, Gordon was not sell-out puppet. Gordon’s comments regarding his personnel support for the TTC are just B.S. Gordon, like Gov. Hair is a joke. And, the joke is on us, the Texas Tax Payers!

this whole trans texas corridor,is a direct result of NAFTA,and the security and prosperity agreement(which rick perry done in secret).almost all manufacturing and service related jobs have been exported to other countries.now they are trying to force us to facilitate them in importing products back in.there would be no need for this corridor if this had not happened.our elected officials need to be held accountable….

I have several issues with this monstrosity. I just built my dream home on my falily’s farm. A family friend and I built it and it’s not for sale! I’m 50. This is it for me.
The government would take my place against my wishes, sell it to foreign investors.. who will charge me to drive across the place!
If we cannot afford to build it it should NOT be built!
This thing will fill our valleys with diesel and gasoline smog. It will be a pipeline of pollutants and this is the environmental phase! Our elected officials would sell our clean water, lands, and air out for nothing. This area will not benefit, other than truck stops.
Please join me in standing firm in opposition to I-69 and to NO ACTION if the United States and the State of Texas cannot afford to improve our existing roads.
I get the idea that the plan is to deflate opposition due to the short attention span of Americans. Let’s surprise them!
