Board preparing to rid streets of portable signs
Taking the first steps Thursday toward the city’s goal of eliminating portable signs from within its borders, five experts on signage held the first meeting of the Nacogdoches board of sign control and appeals to begin working on their only responsibility — determining the values of condemned signs.

“Though the issue of mobile signs is an aesthetic issue for many, Jeffers said all actions taken by the city must be in the name of public health, safety and welfare. Relevant case law, Jeffers said, supports the view that the unsightly clutter of the signs is distracting and dangerous to drivers.”
If this is true about distraction and danger…..how was the decision ever made to allow scrolling flashing bright electronic signs?

I agree. Those tacky flashing, scrolling electronic signs are more of a driving hazard than these portable signs will EVER be! It is disappointing to see some of the “upper scale” establishments lower themselves to using these signs. Chicken express on the south loop has the MOST distracting one. It is so bright you can’t see oncoming traffic at night!

I agree. I also see that there needs to be a great deal of emphasis on the litter around town and in the county. It looks like people just drive around throwing trash out their car windows. I’d like to think you were all raised better than that. For those that were, don’t look the other way. We need to mention it to anyone and everyone. Maybe those who are habitual about littering will consider what they are doing and what they are teaching others. If people want to live trashy inside their homes (without endangering pets/children) so be it. I am proud of being a Texans, but I am too embarrassed to have company come in from outside the state. Our roads are disgusting! Don’t mess with Texas, yea right. That’s a joke.
