Cockfighting operation broken up by Nacogdoches sheriff
The Nacogdoches sheriff’s office stumbled upon and then broke up an illegal cockfighting operation on Woden Road Saturday afternoon.
A deputy serving a felony warrant at the property became alarmed when a large gathering of people turned and ran toward the woods, leaving behind a full-scale fighting site with rooster pens, a makeshift concession stand and even a baby sitting service. Full Story

It takes a sick individual to get entertainment from watching something kill something else. I hope they prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law and then some.

Who was arrested? Names??? Everyone that was there and those than ran and left their vehicles should all be arrested. This property should be confiscated by the sheriff’s dept…..I beleive it is For Sale…You are right Sam…mexicans do own this property…but I’m sure there was plenty white trash there too….LOCK EM ALL UP and call the Humane Society.

I’m not sure what y’all mean by ‘greasers’ but that’s not important. People from all walks of life go in for animal cruelty and gambling. I agree that all involved need legal repercussions.

It sure is funny how you bunch of sissy bleeding heart loonie-leftists worry about a chicken fight but havent 1 problem with going to Church’s or KFC.These great fowl have 1 mission in life that is implanted in theyre genes by god and that is to fight,in fact if it wasnt for the fight they would be extinct today.I am a 3rd generation Texan and a cockfighter our birds have been in Texas since there was first a Texas and if you bunch of sorry no good for nothing sissy liberals think you or anyone can stop us and make our families of fowl extinct trust me it will NOT WORK. Cockfighting should be legalized so the future of these great fowl will live for generations to come not become extinct just because some 2bit sissy doesnt understand the hard work and sacrifice we have put into theyre survival.

First off, they should confiscate the vehicles and auction them, and give the $$$ to the Humane Society. They should seize the property too! This is about as heartless as it can get! I have witnessed the training of what Daryl calls these wonderful animals, and that too is cruel! I DO realize that left alone in the woods, or yard, these birds will fight, and sometimes to the death. That is sad but a part of nature. If it happens in your yard, where a chicken can run from the one chasing him, it is different, than penning them up and taunting them to fight! I do not care WHERE the people that are caught doing this live, or where they are from, they too are animals! Most of the people I have seen keeping fighting chickens are hispanic, but there are some from all walks of life. None are b better than the other. Hang them all, and hang them HIGH!

I am so glad that the Sheriff’s department busted this cockfighting. I wish they would bust up the dogfighting in Nacogdoches also. A few years ago the humane society had a grant for cruelty investigation and they took care of the cruelty to animals in the county. Unfortunately, the humane society decided that they didn’t want to involve themselves with that program anymore so they canceled it. Can you imagine all the cruelty that goes unreported in this county because of them? @ Flyfisher: If they sell the roosters and give the money to the humane society what would they do with it? They have already let cruelty run rampant. They are a joke but all the suffering they have caused is NOT FUNNY! Three cheers to the sheriff’s dept for doing what the humane society ought to be doing.

The world economic forecast being bleak,fuel prices through the roof, health care, social security strained to the point of near bankruptcy and the Sheriff is chasing chickens! Hey J Chappell, just what do you think the sheriff is supposed to do about gas prices and health care? Your comment is misguided. The sheriff is responsible for upholding the laws of the state, all of them. He has no influence over health care policy and gas prices. Would you prefer a community where the sheriff chooses not to enforce certain laws? That sort of thing is corrosive on a society. Thank God the sheriff is enforcing the law.

It seems kind of sad that our wonderful law enforcement of Nacogdoches can’t find anything better to do with their time than wasting it on this measly mess.There are alot of other people who need to be behind bars than the ones involved with this.. our fine tax dollars at work!!

Congratulations for a job well done. While some may consider this insignificant, it is our responsibility as humans to defend those who can’t defend themselves: children, animals, the elderly. It is good to know the police did not serve their warrant and ignore the illegal activity. It is their job to uphold all laws big and small.

Let’s take a look at what our special interests have helped with, politicians were so involved saving animals $$$$ that our entire economic forecast was neglected. Thanks to special interest politics that closed slaughter houses,we now have herds of wild horses running rampant over the countryside,endangering people and distroying property. Everything can’t be saved or salvaged, those slaughtered were defects,something needs to be done with them,without a system for processing we have created the need for a healthcare system for worn out horses and we can’t even afford the system for worn out people!!

A sheriff can pick and choose what he decides in enforce, would you rather your sheriff take a look into homocide,armed robbery,narcotics and other hard core crimes or spend the afternoon chasing animals rights offenders? Every citizen with a brain would choose the former, however special interest and political pressure sends the sheriff in another direction which is unfair to the Sheriff’s dept and unfair to the average citizen
