Q: I wonder if Tobin Bell, the very scary Jigsaw in the Saw movies, has kids and will take them trick or treating on Halloween?

A: Tobin is happy to let you and the neighbors know that he and his son will be going door to door. “My son and a few of his friends will be wearing Billy masks,” Bell says. [In case, you’re not a Saw fan, Billy is the nasty little puppet Jigsaw uses to communicate with his victims.] “I guess he’s really popular, because last Halloween I saw a lot of kids dressed like Billy. I always go over and say hello to them, which leaves them somewhat speechless. I guess they recognize my voice as Jigsaw’s.”   But, the real question is, does Jigsaw have a sweet tooth? “Candy is one of my things. I really do like candy. So yes, I admit it—when my son puts his candy bag down in the corner of his room, he has to put guards around it because I’m the first one there. Good & Plenty and Dots. Those are my two.”   Tobin admits he’s a little surprised at the young fans who seem to have seen the gore-fests. “That’s up to their parents to decide,” he says. “One of the kids in the Billy costume looked about 10 and he said, ‘I saw Saw 3 and it was great.’ I said, ‘your parents let you see that?’”   As for Tobin, he hasn’t even seen Saw 4. But he told me he plans on seeing it at a regular theater with an audience, in fact he could be sitting next to you… boo! “In this case, I probably will flip in right after the start of the film because it could be kind of freaky to be sitting in your seat, turn around and see me sitting there. So I may be wearing my New England Patriots beanie or something so that I can disappear into the woodwork.”

Tobin won’t let anyone criticize the terror in his Saw epics.  He says, “I think what we’re doing is in the best tradition of horror.”
