the non-boyfriend

So this past weekend, rather than joining in on the Hurricane Gustav coverage, I decided to venture to Dallas. One of my friends, who I found out everyone now calls “Mister,” started our cocktail fest with a conversation about her non-boyfriend. What is a non-boyfriend, you might ask? I did! My friend, who has been dating her boy for about 2 months, explained to me that a non-boyfriend is basically the same as someone you casually date, except that it’s not so casual. In her scenario, her boy is debating on a future career choice and she is just getting back into the dating arena. Neither wants to commit, yet they spend most of their free time together. “He’s my non-boyfriend” she tells me. Hmm. That’s interesting.

I love this “non-boyfriend” I guess its something only women can understand and I have one also, but I’ve been calling him a “friend”.
