It didn't turn out to be the "Great Escape" after all.

A man arrested for possession of marijuana fled while the officer was in the booking area of the Marion County Jail early Thursday morning.

Henry Kyle Roller, 27, of 650 Scotts Creek Road, Jefferson, was arrested by Jefferson police for class B possession of marijuana during a traffic stop at approximately 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

While arresting Officer Travis Redd entered the booking area at the Marion County Jail, Roller, who was handcuffed, fled to the parking lot and stole the patrol car, according to Sgt. Stan Buckland.

The vehicle was recovered at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Trinity Road, east of Marion County where it had been abandoned on the muddy road.

Roller later contacted authorities and surrendered about 9:30 a.m. Thursday

He was additionally charged with felony escape from custody and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
