GARRISON- Already having clinched a playoff spot last week, the Garrison Bulldogs ran to a solid 49-0 tune-up win over Troup Friday night.
The win gives the Dogs an overall 8-2 record and 4-1 in District 19-AA, good enough for second place behind unbeaten and top-ranked Arp. The loss finishes Troup's season with a 2-8 record and 1-4 in district.
The Tigers were outmatched in every phase of play. They fumbled the ball away on the first play of the game and it went downhill from there.
The Bulldogs forced four fumbles in the game and recovered all of them. The Bulldogs had 17 first downs in the first half compared to one for Troup
Bulldog tailback Scooter Ross led all rushers with 118 yards and two touchdowns and had only one carry in the second half.
Ross has rushed for 1424 yards and 19 touchdowns so far this season. Quarterback Dustin Strahan was 4-of-5 passing for 98 yards and a score and ran for two more touchdowns. Josh Williams had 66 yards on 7 carries with a score and Desmond McKibbins added 55 yards on 11 carries.
Two Bulldog quarterbacks threw touchdowns with Strahan hitting Gunnar Bell for a 21-yard score and Phillip Barrett tossing a 12-yard score to Aaron Borden. Barrett threw for a score, caught a pass and recovered a fumble in the game.
The Bulldogs will move to the bi-district round next week and are slated to play either Leon or Rosebud-Lott at a location to be determined.
