"i saw the preview and didn't want anything to do with this flick. i was wrong. as much as i want to dislike leo dicaprio, he was really good and the dude from amistad deserves an oscar for best supporting actor. lots of action and violence but i think all were legit parts of the story. "

"Yes, the violence was merciless. It was also necessary to drive the plot. Without it, the very idea that these people are going to such lengths to get the pink diamond would've seemed unbelievable. The "merciless" violence had to be shown for what it really was for the viewer to understand the environment in which the characters pursued their goals. The movie did not go overboard on any liberal messages as one reviewer proclaimed. She probably just had to say that to justify the big rock she desires. The plot was interesting, the characters were endearing and the acting was outstanding, by all. The editing was wonderful as well - never too fast and it never dragged. I'm not sure what the "tedious" scenes were that the same reviewer mentioned above was referring tol. I cringed a lot at the violent scenes, but was never ever bored. I'd go see it again, and have told all of my friends to go. "
