Police report

Authorities investigating South Fredonia shooting

Saturday, October 31, 2009

A man was taken to the hospital after being shot Friday morning at a residence in the 3800 block of South Fredonia Street, according to Nacogdoches County sheriff Thomas Kerss.

The resident, Cedric Fowler, 28, of Nacogdoches, went to his door around 3:30 a.m. after hearing his dogs making noise and an unknown person outside the home fired several shots, Kerss said. Fowler was struck in the upper thigh by one of the bullets, and another person inside the home returned several shots in retaliation before the unknown person fled the scene, according to Kerss.

Authorities were alerted by the hospital regarding a gunshot wound after Fowler had been taken there in a private vehicle, Kerss said and added that no 911 call was reported about the incident.

Several shell casing were found at the scene but few details were available Friday afternoon, Kerss said.

The case is currently under investigation and Fowler is currently listed in good condition, according to Kerss.

Anyone who has information has been asked to call the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's office at 560-7777.
