Whether you're in the mood for a candy splurge or night of story-telling and haunted hayrides, there's a lot to choose from on this Halloween night.

Millard's Crossing Historic Village will host its third annual Ghosts of Millard's Crossing, an evening filled with ghosts of past tenants and their stories, as well as treats, hayrides and old-fashioned games from 6 to 8 p.m. at the village at 6020 North Street.

Josie Schooley, age 10, carves a pumpkin in preparation for the Millard's Crossing Historic Village's third annual Ghosts of Millard's Crossing which will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the village at 6029 North Street. Schooley will be dressed as Thelma Watkins for the event.

Children who attend will be able to chat with the ghosts, solve mysterious anagrams and play old-fashioned games like anty-over on the grounds.

Candy by the ounce and freshly made popcorn will be available for purchase at the counter of the Old County Store, and haunted hay rides will be given around the village.

"We are having a lot of fun with this event and we think people who come will, too," said Susie Lower, executive director of the village. "It's a great way to learn local history."

Visitors can park at the flea market and walk over to the gate, where donations of $2 will be collected to help support village operations.

Downtown Nacogdoches will also be filled with an array of fun activities, as the annual Scare on the Square gets under way.

The downtown Halloween celebration will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. and will include trick-or-treating, a costume contest, a haunted hayride, a haunted house, a petting zoo, young children's area, games and more. All participants must register between 5:30 and 6 p.m. The entry fee is $1, and there will be a category for every age group, as well as a group/family category. The haunted hayride will load and unload near the Regions Stone Fort Bank ATM at the corner of Pilar and Fredonia Streets. The hayride, which will wind through downtown and the Nacogdoches Soccer Fields, is $1 per person and will run from 7 to 10 p.m. A petting zoo will be located on Fredonia Street on the west side of Regions Bank and will be free of charge to all ages.
