Election Day issue

Texans go to the polls Nov. 3 to vote on 11 proposed state constitutional amendments. Each day through Nov. 1, we'll take a closer look at one ballot proposition.

Prop. 2

Proposition 2 requires taxation of a residential homestead to be based only on its value as a homestead, regardless of the property's highest and best use.

Supporters say: Protects homeowners from big tax increases if they live in neighborhoods transitioning from residential to commercial use.

Opponents say: Arbitrarily moves appraisals away from a true market valuation of property.
