NOV. 3 ELECTION

Proposition 6

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Election Day issue

Texans will go to the polls Nov. 3 to vote on 11 proposed state constitutional amendments. Each day through Sunday, we'll look at one proposition. Early voting will end Friday.

Prop. 6

Proposition 6 would renew the Veterans Land Board's bond authority for land and mortgage loans and allow it to fund new loans as old bonds are retired without a statewide vote.

Supporters say: Secures uninterrupted bonding authority for land and home loans at below-market rates as a reward to veterans for their military service.

Opponents say:Significantly expands state debt. Reauthorization of bonds should apply only to those previously authorized by voters and retired as of this year.
