For the most part, the final Friday of the regular season lacks playoff excitement, other than one big game in Mount Enterprise.
The Wildcats host Beckville in a game that will decided District 19-A's third-place team.
In Class 3A, Center and Jasper meet with second place on the line in District 18-AAA.
To the games of the week.
Beckville at Mount Enterprise
Records: Mount Enterprise is 7-2 overall and 3-2 in District 19-A. Beckville is 4-5 overall and 3-2 in District 19-A.
Last week: Tenaha defeated Mount Enterprise 39-0. Beckville defeated West Sabine 30-6.
Coaches: Mount Enterprise's Louie Johnson. Beckville's Donald Hubbard.
Outlook: With Tenaha and Joaquin filling the top two positions in District 19-A, this game will decide the third-place team.
Bottom line: Both teams lost by big margins to Tenaha and Joaquin and routed the other district competition. If you're searching for a good, competitive, high-stakes game to attend, there's a ticket waiting on you.
Center at Jasper
Records: Center is 7-1 and 3-1 in District 18-AAA. Jasper is 7-2 and 3-1 in 18-AAA.
Last week: Center defeated Huntington 54-0. Jasper defeated Rusk 45-21.
Coaches: Center's Kevin Goodwin. Jasper's Mike Bickham.
Outlook: The winner of this game locks up second place in District 18-AAA. The loser takes third.
Bottom line: This looks like a good match up. Center fed off mistakes by Huntington last week early, building a 20-0 lead before it ran its second offensive play. But the best part of the game was the Roughriders gaining 347 yards offense after struggling with moving the football against Rusk. If anything, playing Jasper in the regular-season finale will give Center a good solid test going into the playoffs.
Troup at Garrison
Records: Garrison is 7-2 overall and 3-1 in District 19-AA. Troup is 2-7 overall and 1-3 in 19-AA.
Last week: Garrison defeated Frankson 38-19. West Rusk defeated Troup 18-7.
Coaches: Garrison's Craten Phillips. Troup's John Eastman.
Outlook: Garrison already has locked up a playoff berth and takes a three-game winning streak into this game. Troup's only district win came against Elkhart.
Bottom line: While there's not any motivation for either team regarding a playoff berth, Garrison needs to keep it rolling before going into the postseason. Troup's 34-6 loss to Frankson a few weeks ago suggests that this one could get out of hand.
San Augustine at Woodville
Records: San Augustine is 0-9 overall and 0-4 in District 22-AA. Woodville is 4-5 and 2-2 in 22-AA.
Last week: Kirbyville defeated San Augustine 46-0. Woodville defeated Hemphill 54-34.
Coaches: San Augustine's Bryan Clay. Woodville's Steve Fentress.
Outlook: San Augustine is in a tough spot in its effort to win a game this season.
Bottom line: Woodville has won two of its last three games, with the victories coming against Shelbyville and Hemphill. Woodville scored 54 and 43 points, respectively, in those games. San Augustine's only hint of offense all season came in a 50-36 loss to Shelbyville a few weeks ago.
Carlisle at Cushing
Records: Cushing is 1-8 overall and 1-4 in District 20-A. Carlisle is 5-4 overall and 3-2 in 20-A.
Last week: Grapeland defeated Cushing 39-0. Carlisle defeated Cross Rods 50-0.
Coaches: Cushing's Glen Tunstall. Carlisle's Rocky Baker.
Outlook: Carlisle needs a win to clinch third place in District 20-A. Cushing would like to go out with the win.
Bottom line: Carlisle's only district losses were to the big boys — Cayuga and Alto. Otherwise, the Indians defeated Grapeland in overtime (21-20) and shut out Overton and Cross Roads. Cushing hasn't scored in its last three games since defeating Cross Roads for its only win.
Timpson at Waskom
Records: Timpson is 2-7 overall and 0-5 in District 19-A. Waskom is 0-9 and 0-5 in 19-A.
Last week: Timpson was idle. Joaquin defeated Waskom 58-12.
Coaches: Timpson's Kenny Washington. Waskom's Brian Lowe.
Outlook: Two struggling District 19-A teams square off in the season finale for both teams. No playoff hopes in this one. This one is for pure entertainment.
Bottom line: Timpson has scored 6 points total in its last five games. Waskom has lost big in district games, but the Wildcats have scored in their last four games. First team to 10 wins.
