Kendrick Hatton scored three touchdowns (8, 3, 7) as the Jacksonville Indians came into Dragon Stadium and took a 21-7 win over Nacogdoches on homecoming Friday night.

Hatton, a 6-1, 220-pound junior rushed for 116 yards — 89 in the second half — as the Indians were able to milk the clock in the second half with their running game.

Jacksonville (2-5, 1-1) rushed for 205 yards as a team. Nacogdoches (5-2, 1-1) was held to 189 yards of total offense — 105 on the ground and 84 through the air. The first half was a back-and-forth defensive battle. Neither team was able to get much going offensively. Jacksonville finally got on the scoreboard on an 8-yard run by Hatton with 2:05 left in the first half.

Jacksonville had another scoring opportunity set up by a Jimmy Gray interception at the Nacogdoches 17 yard line with less than a minute to play in the half. Gray had two interceptions in the game to give him seven for the season.

However, the Dragons kept the Indians from scoring when Jamar Roberts picked off a Kyle Stacy pass attempt in the end zone to make it a 7-0 game at the break.

Stacy was 5-of-14 through the air for 65 yards.

Nacogdoches' quarterbacks combined for 5-of-14 passing for 84 yards. The Dragons were also sacked four times — two each by Justin Jones and Antwone Johnson.

Courtney Patton was 2-of-9 through the air for 20 yards and an interception. He completed his first two attempts of the game. Chase Wallace was 3-of-5 for 64 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

The touchdown came a little too late, though.

Hatton scored from three yards out with 4:40 to play in the third quarter and added the knockout punch with a 7-yard score with 1:28 left in the game to make it 21-0.

The Dragons only score came on a 50-yard strike from Wallace to Keilo Driver with 27 seconds on the clock.

The loss was the Dragons first at home this season.

Jerimichael Smith, who leads Nacogdoches in touchdowns this season, rushed for 111 yards on 21 carries, but couldn't find the end zone.

The story, though, was Jacksonville's running game. The Indians had six different guys carry the ball. And with a 14-0 lead in the final period, the Indians were able to burn six minutes off the clock with the running of Hatton and Zaver Jones. Jones rushed for 35 yards on 14 carries.

Terrance Canady caught two passes for 39 yards for the Indians.

Jacksonville controlled the first downs with 15 to only nine by Nacogdoches, which was forced to punt six times and turned the ball over twice.

Nacogdoches will try to get back in the win column with a District 14-4A contest Oct. 24 at Lindale. Lindale (6-1) suffered its first loss of the season with a 36-25 decision against Whitehouse Friday night.
