Eagles run wild on Dragons, 28-14

With Lindale bringing its stellar running game to town Friday night, the Nacogdoches Dragons bottled up the Eagles early.

However a 56-yard pass from Matt Broussard to Zach McCoy set up a 1-yard scoring run by Broussard.

After a three-and-out on its next drive, Lindale turned to the "Wildcat" formation, direct snapping the ball to running back Keandre Ross for the majority of the game. Ross rushed for 158 yards on 22 carries to lead the Eagles to a 28-14 victory over the Dragons at Dragon Stadium.

The loss puts Nacogdoches (3-5, 0-3) in an improbable position to qualify for one of four playoff spots in District 14-4A.

Lindale's John Ryzman rushed for 59 yards on four carries, with runs of 20 and 37 yards, respectively, on the first two plays of the second half in his opportunity to get the direct snaps.

The Dragons rushed for 211 yards on 39 carries, but turnovers late hurt the chances of a comeback. Lindale rushed for 244 yards on 41 carries.

In a 21-7 contest midway through the third quarter, the Dragons had the ball in the red zone, but Lindale intercepted a pass, and Keith Moore took the ball 82 yards to the opposite end zone, making the score 28-7.

The Dragons scored on their next possession on a 2-yard run by Jacoby Ervin, who rushed for 92 yards on 20 carries.

Nacogdoches moved the ball late in the fourth quarter, once again reaching the red zone, but after a complete pass from Courtney Patton to Antonio Lathan, the Eagles jarred the ball loose, and it landed in the hands of Lindale's Cameron Bradbury.

James Crews made two field goals for Lindale (4-4, 2-1), an 18-yarder with six seconds left in the first half and a 40-yarder on the first drive of the third quarter.

Broussard had 126 yards of offense for the Eagles. McCoy caught two passes for 62 yards.

Patton rushed for 68 yards on 10 carries for the Dragons, and D'Aundre Garrett added 56 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. Lathan caught three passes for 58 yards for the Dragons.

Nacogdoches will play its final road contest of the season next week in Whitehouse.
