FRANKSTON- The Garrison Bulldogs clinched second-place in District 19-AA and guaranteed themselves a playoff spot with a 38-19 win at Frankston Friday night. The Dogs were led by Scooter Ross who rushed for 155 yards and 3 touchdowns on only 9 carries.
The Bulldog blew the game open early with 24 points in the first quarter. Ross went 42 yards for a score on his first touch and 49 yards and a TD on his next carry. Josh Williams broke loose for a 53-yard run to push the score to 21-0 and Nathan Burkhalter hit a 24-yard field goal to close the quarter.
The only score of the 2nd quarter was a pass from Dustin Strahan to Aaron Borden that was fumbled at the 20 and scooped up by David Parrish and taken in for the score, giving the Dogs a 31-0 halftime lead.
Frankston scored to open the second half but Ross' 14-yard TD pushed the lead back up and the Dogs cruised, giving the bench plenty of playing time to close the game.
In addition to the big night by Ross, Williams finished with 74 yards on 6 carries and Strahan was 3 for 3 passing for 53 yards. Frankston QB Jamal Allen led his team with 247 yards passing and 2 TDs and rushed for 65 yards.
The win puts the Dogs back in the playoffs for the first time since 2005. The Bulldogs (7-2 overall, 3-1 in district games) have one game remaining against Troup to finish the regular season. Frankston falls to 4-5 on the season and 1-3 in district play.
