A Nacogdoches woman accused of stealing prescription painkillers from the pharmacy where she worked in Lufkin is facing a felony theft charge.

Romanda McGowan is charged with third-degree felony theft of a controlled substance valued at less than $150,000. Authorities in Angelina County say she took tramadol from a pharmacy where she worked during a four-month period beginning in February.

McGowan was arrested last week and released after posting $5,000 bail over the weekend, an employee of the Angelina County Jail said Thursday.

On June 1, the manager of the pharmacy on West Frank Avenue reported the missing drugs and said McGowan, who no longer worked there, stole around 2,700 tablets of the painkiller.

He told police he confronted McGowan and she confessed, according to the warrant filed for her arrest.

McGowan agreed to meet with police June 10 and admitted that she stole around 1,000 tablets of tramadol over the course of about three months after injuring herself, according to arrest documents.
