State Health and Human Services on Friday added 13 new cases and an additional fatality to Nacogdoches County’s total coronavirus count.

The county’s estimated active cases are now at 90 and total fatalities attributed to COVID-19 are 66. Another 1,571 county residents who have tested positive since March are presumed recovered by the state.

Nineteen patients with COVID-19 are being treated at Nacogdoches hospitals Friday, according to numbers posted by the SouthEast Texas Regional Advisory Council, with five of those in intensive care. Sixty-five county residents have died from the virus.

Nacogdoches ISD on Friday reported a Mike Moses Middle School employee had tested positive and on Thursday a student at Brooks-Quinn-Jones Elementary and a Nacogdoches High employee also contracted the virus. Since it began reporting cases to the public on Sept. 18, the district has logged cases among 24 students and 15 employees. NISD updates new cases at its campuses under the link titled “COVID-19 information” on the website, NacISD.org.

On the SFA campus, eight of 200 beds designated for student isolation were in use Friday. Of those who have been present on the campus in the past week, 18 students and one faculty member have active cases. SFA lists positive cases under the green “Open SFA” tab located at the university’s website, sfasu.edu.
