"The Devil all the Time"

I wish I remembered where I heard about Donald Ray Pollock’s “The Devil All the Time.” The 2011 novel has received numerous comparisons to the work of Cormac McCarthy. Being a McCarthy fan, that comparison was pretty much all I needed to look into this novel.

Pollock (or is it Ray Pollock?) has a pretty interesting story. Donald Ray Pollock (better safe than sorry) grew up in Ohio and worked as a laborer and truck driver until he was 50 years old. At age 50, Donald Ray Pollock enrolled at Ohio State to work in the English program and began to publish some of his writing quickly thereafter.
