Understanding the banking system is essential to an understanding of the World Economy. For this reason, several articles (following this first article) will discuss the banking system — including international banking and domestic banking.

The event prompting the writing of this series of articles is the worldwide publicity concerning the financial woes of Silicon Valley Bank now disrupting the world of banking. It is hoped that this series will bring some clarity to those trying to have a better understanding of the banking system, and later articles will address the reasons for the failure of Silicon Valley Bank.
