NASA show to premiere at planetarium

A show titled “From Dream to Discovery — Inside NASA” will premiere this Saturday at the SFA Planetarium.

All about how NASA designs, builds and tests robotic spacecraft that explore the solar system and beyond, the film is suitable for all ages and will be shown at 4:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday. Ticket prices are $6 adults, $4 children. A children’s matinee titled “Earth, Moon and Sun” is at 3 p.m. with all tickets $3.

The planetarium is located in the new STEM building the SFA campus, just across from the Stone Fort Museum with free on-site parking. For information, call 936-468-3009.

Author to discuss new book during Culinary Cafe

Author Gary Pinkerton will be the featured speaker at a special SFA Culinary Cafe event on campus Thursday, Oct. 24.

The lunch and learn event is noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in Room 121 of SFA’s Education Annex on Raguet Street.

Pinkerton will discuss his newest book, “True Believers: Treasure Hunters at Hendricks Lake,” the story of a 150-year-old legend about Spanish silver and people who believed the legend enough to go searching for treasure. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

The Culinary Cafe offers cuisine prepared and served by SFA hospitality students under the direction of Chef Todd Barrios. The Oct. 24 luncheon will feature a Mediterranean menu.

Lip Sync Battle Thursday night

The fourth annual Lip Sync Battle between Nacogdoches and Martinsville high schools begins at 7 p.m. Thursday in the NHS Auditorium.

Students from both campuses with present choreographed storylines to go with selected music before the audience and a panel of judges. The public is invited and doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door. The auditorium is on the east side of the NHS campus facing Appleby Sand Road.

Republican Women to meet Monday

Texas Federation of Republican Women Deputy Director Karen Morris will address the October meeting of the Nacogdoches County Republican Women.

The group will meet beginning at 11:45 a.m. Monday at the Fredonia Hotel. Lunch is $18 and reservations can be made by emailing or texting RSVP to 936-615-5349.

Daylily, Iris societies plant sale on Saturday

The East Texas Daylily and Iris societies will hold a fall bulb and plant sale on Saturday in Tyler.

The sale will be held at 2700 SW Loop 323 in Tyler from 9 a.m. until sold out. The usually vacant lot is sometimes used by Plants of Texas.

The sale is a fundraiser for both clubs, with money raised providing scholarships to local horticulture students. New members are always welcome.
