The local face on the front of this year’s Humane Society pet calendar might not be known to everyone, but his Instagram and Twitter followers should recognize him.
Of course, photos selected for the annual fundraising project are kept under wraps until the official unveiling, said Humane Society board president Beth White.
“There will be some familiar faces — and some new faces,” she said.
The calendar reveal will be at the fifth annual Make That Tail Wag fundraiser, scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Banita Creek Hall. Proceeds from the $25 admission as well as sales of the pet calendars go toward the Humane Society’s countywide spay and neuter project to prevent overpopulation of dogs and cats.
“This is our big fundraiser for the year,” White said.
Combining ticket and calendar sales and sponsorships, the annual event has raised as much as $50,000 in a single year, she says. Since last year, more than 2,000 animals have been spayed or neutered through the organization’s voucher program.
Entertainment for Make that Tail Wag will be provided by East Texas musician Sam Shupak. Admission includes appetizers and a Silver Collar level membership in the Humane Society of Nacogdoches County. Pet calendars will be available for $25 each, and tickets will be available at the door.
After Thursday’s event, a limited number of calendars will be sold at the city animal shelter, at the Townhouse on North Street and at Commercial Bank downtown.
