Nacogdoches City Council on Tuesday named attorney Byron Brown as the sole finalist to succeed City Attorney Jeff Davis, who is resigning at the end of the year to become a state district judge.

After a closed executive session, the council returned to open session to name Brown the sole finalist and authorize the mayor to execute a contract. The council met in three closed special sessions last week to discuss the city attorney position.
