An upgrade to U.S. 59 south of Nacogdoches is among four projects slated for the nine-county Lufkin District and recently approved by Texas Transportation Commissioners.

Commissioners on Thursday approved more than $601.5 million in projects statewide, including more than $5.7 million in the Lufkin District. In Nacogdoches County, a $1.1 million project on U.S. 59 includes intersection improvements as well as right and left turn lanes. The work area spans from a mile south of Spradley Street to CR 524.
