After seeing widely circulated videos taken by bystanders, Nacogdoches Police Chief Jim Sevey released a statement describing the police restraint of a Minneapolis man, whose death sparked violent protests in the Twin Cities, as “inexcusable.’

“I’ve personally made a lifelong career of serving various communities and keeping people safe,” Sevey wrote in his statement issued Friday afternoon. “I take issue with the behavior witnessed in the video seen around the country, and my heart goes out to George Floyd’s family and all who are impacted by this senseless tragedy.”
