Visitation will be held from 10:00am until service time on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Laird Funeral Home.
Jerry graduated from high school and enlisted in the US Army in 1963, where he honorably served our great country until 1968. When he returned home, he joined the Texas Department of Public Safety as a trooper in Harris County. During this time, he met a special lady who stole his heart and on May 15, 1971 he and Nell joined their lives and families as one. Jerry loved Nell completely and without boundaries. He spent every day making sure she and the girls were taken care of. When the hustle and bustle of Houston became too much for them, they moved North to Conroe. It wasn’t long until the big city ways made it to them in Conroe. The opportunity to move farther north presented itself and they made their final home in Nacogdoches. Jerry retired from DPS in 1996 and began his retirement years just as he and Nell had planned….working alongside each other on the farm. Jerry’s love of the Model T Ford led him and Nell to travel the nation with their closest friends. The memories they made together were many and will remain some of the best they ever had. However, his favorite thing to do, above all else, was watching the grandkids as they participated in the many sports and various activities. He was their biggest critic and their biggest supporter and he was the same to their friends and teammates. Jerry was a man of great honor and integrity. He proudly passed on his invaluable traits and strong ethics on to his girls and grandchildren. He was so proud of each of them and bragged about them everywhere he went and to everyone who would listen.
Jerry is survived by his best friend and wife of 48 years, Nell Teer; mother, Mary Alice Teer; daughters, Sheri Dodson and husband, Lonnie and LeAnn Goerner and husband, Tim; grandchildren, Dustin Goerner and fiancé, Stephanie Dantimo, Taryn Taylor and husband, Trey, SSgt. Bryan Dodson, USAF, LCpl Scott Dodson, USMC Vet., PO2 Laura Rysted and husband, PO3 David Rysted, USN, Kelly Dodson and Blake Goerner; 4 great grandchildren as well as many other family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Bruce Teer and grandson, Peyton Goerner.
Pallbearers will be Blake Goerner, Scott Dodson, Randy Pullin, Tim Goerner, Dustin Goerner and Jaden Hall. Bryan Dodson is named as Honorary Pallbearer.
