Dan Morris Spurgeon

May 29, 2021

Dan Morris Spurgeon was born September 3,1958 in Baytown, Texas. He passed away May 29, 2021 in Robert Lee, Texas at the age of 62.  Son of Ralph Morris Spurgeon and Dena Jo Wallace Spurgeon, Dan grew up in Baytown where he was active in sports and loved being outside. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and immediately went to work in the refinery industry.  This would be the beginning of a career that would span more than 44 years.

Dan loved to design and build. Even from a very early age, he enjoyed taking things apart and modifying them to be unique and fitting to his likeness.  There were so many things he liked to do and was always challenged to learn and develop his hobbies to the fullest extent.  He loved all things automotive—restoring old cars and boats, riding motorcycles, and building high performance engines in his machine shop.  He was a perfectionist and was meticulous about his work.  He never did anything halfway.  Dan believed in people and wanted them to be the best they could be.  He loved to share his knowledge with others and strived to be a mentor and leader before his friends, family, and in the work place.

Dan loved the Lord and was an active member of Robert Lee Baptist Church.

Dan is survived today by his wife Beverly, his daughter Priscilla Spurgeon Harlan and her husband Brett, his mother Dena Wallace Spurgeon, brother John Spurgeon and wife Debra, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and extended family.  Dan had many friends and co-workers through the years, including his very special friend, Kevin “Stick” Jones.

Dan is preceded in death by his father Ralph Morris Spurgeon and nephew, Weston John Liebrum.  He was laid to rest in Nacogdoches, Texas, at a private graveside service on June 11, 2021.
