Dorothy Herd-Wallace

Dorothy Herd-Wallace

Funeral service for Dorothy Herd-Wallace, 80, of Nacogdoches, will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Laird Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Sever officiating.  Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches.

Dorothy was born and raised in Nacogdoches and has forever called this her home.  She was loving and kind and had a special place in her heart for her family.  Having no grandchildren of her own, she “adopted” her great nieces and nephews and loved them endlessly.  They compassionately called her “RoRo.”

From a young age, Dorothy learned to enjoy the fine things of life.  She was always adorned and dressed to perfection.  As a youngster, she constantly tried to get her siblings into trouble.  Martin and Fran heard more times than once, of her putting a newborn Fran in the fridge and slamming Martin’s head in the car hatch! Later in life, Dorothy became very confident being around people, and her work at Moore Business Forms was quite enjoyable to her.  She spent 35 years there until her retirement.  She never met a stranger, made many friends and kept up with them for as long as she could.  She also had a special place in her life for her dogs, Rusty Bear and Romy.

Dorothy, being quite the shopper and lover of beautiful things, spent many days shopping and especially enjoyed Mize Department Store and on HGTV.  It has been said that she kept them in business!  Although she never learned to cook, she always enjoyed gatherings.  When tasked with bringing food, she secretly would buy a pie and put it in her own dish and pass it off as her own contribution to the meal.  She did make fabulous banana pudding, but her jello (made with dishwater) was not a hit at the family reunion.  She was fun, and funny and would eat at Sonic as often as she was able.

Dorothy was a social butterfly.  She attended Holiday In The Pines yearly, was a volunteer at the Hope Food Bank, member of The Garden Club, and was a proud participant as a young woman, in the Ms. Nacogdoches pagent.

She is survived by her children, Todd Murphy of Crosby and Torre Scifo and husband, Joe of Nacogdoches; brother, Martin Ariville Mason & wife, Joyce of Nacogdoches; sister, Fran Fulsom & husband, David of Greenville; step children, Stacy Martin, Billie Page, Sheila Wallace, Trace Monroe, Rusty Wallace, Danny Wallace, and Neal Wallace; nephews and nieces, Shawn & Robyn Mason, Chris & Alecia Murphy, Steven Mason, and Tamera & Pat Nesmith; great nieces and nephews, Gaige Mason, Carsyn Mason, Claire Mason, Macy and Cody Clark, and Clay and Courtney Nesmith; and great great niece, Hendrix Rose Nesmith.

She is preceded in death by her parents, M.L. and Mary Thurston Mason; and husbands, Tom Murphy, Roy Herd, and Bob Wallace.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Mason, Jimmy Kendricks, Martin Mason, Keith Graves, David Fulsom, and Bobby Owens.
