Paul Lee Miller of Nacogdoches passed away Monday, February 10, 2020, in Nacogdoches at the age of 69 surrounded by his children after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 28, 1950, in Sinton, Texas, to parents Nelson Warren Miller, Sr. and Thelma Pauline (McKinley) Miller.

Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting guns, traveling the US and Canada, and spending time at the deer lease.  He earned his BBA from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1972. He worked in the construction industry for 39 years, of which 25 years were as a project manager and superintendent for Cox Contractors, Inc. overseeing countless projects in the East Texas area.  He served with the Appleby Volunteer Fire Department from 1980 to 1996, proudly serving as Fire Chief from January 1981 to April 1986.  He was a member of the Nacogdoches County Fire Chief’s and Marshall’s Association as secretary/treasurer from January 1982 to January 1992 and president from January 1983 to January 1988. He was also a member of the Nacogdoches County Reserve Deputies from July 1985 to January 1996 serving as an unpaid peace officer. He served as a director of the Appleby Water Supply Corporation from January 1980 to January 1999. Other organizations he was involved in included the Nacogdoches Optimist Club from 1985-1990 and he was a lifetime member of the Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Vickie Jeane (Jones) Miller.

He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Smith and husband Jon and Paula Pearson and husband Justin; step-daughters Sandra Wood and husband Brandon, Jakey Sampson and husband Damon, and Jolie Melton and husband Monty; grandchildren, Zachary and Brandon Smith; Ashton, Emily, and Brittany Pearson, Dylan and Slayton Sampson, and Kaylie, Cory, and Andy Melton; brother, Nelson Warren Miller, Jr. and wife Joy; and the mother of his children, Nancy Miller-Brown.

The family would like to thank Dr. Cengiz Satir, Dr. Gerard Ventura and staff, Nurses Lissette and Rita and Dr. Thomas at Nacogdoches Medical Center, and the caring staff at Heart to Heart Hospice.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2020, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home officiated by Brother J.C. Lewis and Brother Levi Cohurst.  Interment will follow at McKnight Cemetery in Cushing.

Serving as pallbearers will be Rickey Davis, Bruce Clifton, Ken Jones, Kelly Jones, Jerry Mixon, and Larry Malone.

Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2020, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.

The family encourages everyone attending the funeral service to dress casually or in your camouflage attire as a tribute to Mr. Miller’s love of hunting and the outdoors.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Appleby Volunteer Fire Department, the SFA Alumni Association, or Heart to Heart Hospice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches.
