I was diagnosed with Asperger’s in 2016. It is a thrill for me to see someone with Asperger’s succeed on the world stage.

I congratulate Swedish teen Greta Thunberg on being named the 2019 TIME magazine “Person of the Year.” I am proud of Ms. Thunberg. She is an eloquent speaker, which is a skill I don’t possess. She spoke at a United Nations conference, which is something I would never have the guts to do.

On a related topic, let’s talk about Donald Trump for a moment. The day after Ms. Thunberg received this designation, President Trump ripped her to shreds in the media. I am the biggest pro-Trump person you will ever meet, but he crossed the line this time. If he criticizes an adult, or if he had simply disagreed with Ms. Thunberg, that is one thing. Ripping a kid who has a mental health disorder is crass. Mr. President, there is something to be said for being gracious in defeat.
