As Memorial Day approaches and Americans begin to think more and more about the men and women who have given their lives in service to our country, we are mourning the loss of someone who ultimately gave his own life for our country and those who served.

Wednesday morning, former American Legion Commander Jimmy Sparks’ 11 years of military service finally caught up to him. He died after a long and hard-fought battle against cancer.
