Has anyone ever heard of the 1619 Project? If you have not, I think it is a good time to do a little research on this situation. The 1619 Project is an ongoing project developed by The New York Times Magazine in 2019 with the goal of “reframing “ American history around slavery and the contributions of African Americans. Take a minute to actually read that statement.

The project was timed for the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in the Virginia colony in 1619, and suggests that this date represents the “nation’s birth year,” although there were other African slaves brought to America prior to this date e.g. South Carolina received its first slaves in 1526, 93 years before Virginia.
