After the recent chaos in our nation’s Capitol, it was refreshing to see Texas lawmakers come together in typical bipartisan fashion Tuesday and elect their leaders.

Republican state Rep. Dade Phelan of Beaumont was elected speaker of the house with overwhelming bipartisan support. Only two lawmakers — both from his own party — voted against him.
