The 2020 presidential election resulted in record-breaking voter turnout, with an estimated 66.7 percent of the eligible U.S. voting population casting ballots. This trend was especially strong in the South. Consequentially, the fundamental right of our democracy is now once again under siege from Jim Crow diehards. This egregious attack on our Democracy is being carried out by the same forces of white supremacy that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6. Their targets are African Americans, Latinos, Asian Americans the poor and the young. Their passion is presently fueled by Donald Trump’s big lie that the presidential election was fraudulent and stolen.

State legislators in 43 states have introduced 253 bills to restrict voting access since the 2020 election, according to an updated tally by the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University.

We should be reminded that the Democratic Party created the KKK and Jim Crow Laws in the 1860s. A visible presence remained in the party until Democratic Senator Robert Byrd, a Grand Cyclops of the KKK died in 2010.
