Hank Gilbert is running for US Congress. I looked at the records and platforms of both Hank and Louie Gohmert, who has been in Washington DC since 2005 without helping us. I think it is time for a change. Here is why I support Hank.
He is an East Texan who was a high school agriculture teacher, a small businessman and he runs his own ranch. After the passing of his wife due to cancer, he continued her charitable work; he and his sons have helped furnish over 100 new homes for women in crisis.
On a recent visit to SFA, Hank talked about bringing Federal funds to East Texas for schools, roads and other infrastructure, to grow and sustain an educated workforce with decent wages and benefits. He has a viable plan to eliminate or greatly reduce student debt.
Hank commits to work on policies that promote small businesses to grow and create and sustain jobs. He realizes that gradually transitioning to a green economy is going to produce employment and wage growth.
We are giving, charitable people in Nacogdoches and I hope we always will be. That being said, sick and dying people should not have to go without health care, go bankrupt or depend on our charity. Hank is impressively well informed about how to reduce co-pays and deductibles, protect people with pre-existing conditions, who change employers or who are unemployed because they are sick. Every year, non-urban Americans lose hospitals and health clinics.
This puts us at risk, and increases our costs going to Houston or Dallas, for instance. Hank pledges to fight for more grant and pass-through funding to help rural hospitals and clinics provide key services to rural populations. If the Texas legislature continues to block this, then Hank pledges to work with allies in Congress to mandate higher Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement rates paid by the State to rural health care providers.
I hope you will join me in voting for Hank Gilbert for US Congress!
