A 23-year-old woman died after being hit by a vehicle on Southwest Stallings Drive early Sunday.
Chantavia Rodgers of Nacogdoches was taken by ambulance to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital where she died from her injuries, police spokesman Sgt. Brett Ayres said in an email.
Rodgers was walking in the road when she was struck by a northbound vehicle in the 800 block of Southwest Stallings Drive, Ayres said. The daily activity log released by the police department also references the 900 and 600 blocks of Southwest Stallings Drive.
Police had not said Monday morning why they believe Rodgers was walking in the highway.
The pedestrian death is the second this month. Francisco Mendez, 58, was struck and killed by a 2020 Chevrolet Malibu that was traveling north in the 800 block of South Street around 3:15 a.m. July 7. The 800 block of South Street largely consists of a bridge that crosses railroad tracks. Both sides of the bridge have a narrow sidewalk, and it is unclear why Mendez was in the roadway.
In June three pedestrians were hit by a vehicle near North and Carolyn streets after a suspected drunk driver drove his Ford pickup onto a sidewalk. They suffered injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening.
