Happy Mother’s Day this Sunday to all. For those of us raised by a Christian mother, this day is particularly meaningful because we understand that through her selfless love and sacrifice, our mothers gave us a glimpse of Christ’s love for His children. We pray a special prayer for those who have lost their mothers and celebrate all mothers with Proverbs 23:25, “May she who gave you birth be happy.”

We are sorry that we had to cancel the Kingdom Gift Store Sale scheduled for May 11th due to inclement weather. We will reschedule and will keep you informed.

It is hard for us to believe how quickly this year has gone by. We are already planning for summer vacations, and Summer Meals in the Park, and yes we even have our Back to School event on the calendar and in our hearts. Please remember Love INC and our clients before packing away your children’s and grandchildren’s school clothes. Gently used clothing and uniforms can be donated to the Hospice of East Texas Thrift Store for our Back to School event scheduled for August. It is never too early for us to start planning, preparing, and thinking ahead.

Please watch for store sales, garage sales, and other retail specials on Back to School clothing throughout the summer and share if you can. Love INC serves all of Nacogdoches County school-aged children with new and gently used school clothes, new shoes, and/or backpacks. We will share more details about the event as the day approaches, but want to mention it now because it takes months to collect the needed items.

We are also sponsoring our 2nd Annual Back to School Shoe Drive in memory of Jackie Goodroe. Jackie now resides in heaven, but was one of our greatest Back to School volunteer advocates. We want to collect 250 pair of new shoes and socks for children. Donations of new sneakers, athletic shoes, tennis shoes, and socks in youth to adult sizes for ages Pre-K to 12th grade are being accepted at the Love INC office through July 31st. Shoe donations can be dropped off at Love INC office, 917 Ruby Street, Monday – Thursday from 9 to 4:30.

Our focus clientele for this event is the working poor. We want our families to focus on paying their rent and utilities, and let us help with Back to School. In addition to Love INC helping with school clothes and shoes, Greater East Texas Community Action will host a separate event to help families with school supplies.

We want to thank you in advance for your participation and also thank those who have contributed to specific needs we mentioned here. We received door mats and rugs for the service dog. This was a small request, but it was much needed and the donations were appreciated. We also received funding for the deep cleaning of a home for one of our elderly clients, and funding for several other specific featured items including for the purchase of some box springs. We are grateful for your response to our current client needs.

Other validated requests are for new or gently used items: Skillets; Love seat; Twin Linens; Full size Box Springs; Queen size Box Springs; Queen size mattresses; Full size mattresses; Dining Chairs; Dressers.
