The No. 4-ranked Douglass Lady Indians and Woden Lady Eagles continued to roll toward playoff berths in the District 22-2A chase Friday night as they earned lop-sided victories to lead area squads in action. Here’s a look at Friday’s games in the area:


Woden 55, Alto 33 — The Lady Eagles received a combined 20 first-quarter points from sophomore Adyson Loudenslager and junior Chelsea Brookshire as Woden scored 25 first-quarter points en route to a 55-33 District 22-2A win over Alto.

Brookshire led the Woden attack with 22 points on the night, while Loudenslager added 18. Junior Lizzy Moreau pitched in four points, junior Callie Parmer dropped in three, senior Makena Meador, senior Briley Watkins and junior Hunter Holler each chipped in two points and sophomore Haylee Hornbuckle and sophomore Kaylea Webb scored one point apiece.

#4 Douglass 76, New Summerfield 19 — Lady Indian juniors Mariah Neal and Josie Watson combined for 51 points as Douglass won its 20th game of the season without a loss (20-0) in a 76-19 win over New Summerfield. The Lady Indians remained alone in first place in the District 22-2A race with an unblemished 8-0 mark.

Neal led the team with 29 points, with Watson adding 22. Freshman Ariana Neal pitched in nine points to the Douglass attack, while junior Faith Wilcox chipped in six, freshman Landry Keeling and sophomore Abigail Richardson each dumped in three, while senior Kirsten Crump and junior Madyson Freeman scored two points apiece.

San Augustine 60, Martinsville 41 — San Augustine outscored the Martinsville Lady Pirates 35-21 in the middle two periods Friday night as the Lady Wolves finished secured a 60-41 win over MHS.

Senior Carmen Choate led the Lady Pirate attack with 18 points. Senior Gracie Whitehead finished with 12 points, senior Megan Choate pitched in nine and sophomore Layce Randall scored two points.

San Augustine held a slim 12-9 lead at the end of the opening period, but widened the gap to 30-21 at the half and 47-30 at the end of the third, before coasting to the win.


Woden 79, Alto 45 — Twelve different members of the Woden squad lit up the scoreboard Friday night as the Eagles rolled past Alto, 79-45. Junior Hunter Dailey led Woden with 17 points, while Chandler Brittain added 16 points.

Other scorers for Eagles included junior Conner Wallace, senior Trenton Luna and junior Chance Lawson with seven points apiece. Junior Jose Velasco added six points, junior Cahl Moorman pitched in five, sophomore Kaden Hand dropped in four, senior Jesse Brister and junior Gage Torbert scored three each, and junior Weston Riggins and junior Trey Pleasant scored two points apiece.

#20 Douglass 79, New Summerfield 50 — The 20th-ranked Indians only hit 3-of-11 (27.3%) from three-point territory, but made up for it by sinking 30-of-48 (62.5%) from two-point range as they stayed on pace with first-place Garrison in the District 22-2A race with a 79-50 win over New Summerfield.

Four Douglass players scored in double figures, led by sophomore Jaidyn Davis and junior Gentry Thornton with 13 points apiece. Thornton dropped in 5-of-8 from the field.

Senior Chayson Brown put in 4-of-8 from two-point range and sophomore Jace Bobo made 3-of-5 field goals and 5-of-6 from the line as they each scored 11 points.

Sophomore Drew Bobo sank all four of his field goals for nine points, freshman J.T. Davis pitched in eight, senior Cory Melton added seven, freshman Andy Melton scored four, sophomore Aiden Grammer connected for two and senior Christian Bates scored one point.

#9 Gary 51, Timpson 49 — Timpson battled No. 9-ranked Gary down to the wire, but came up just short in a 51-49 setback. The Bears dropped to 3-3 to finish the first round of the District 23-2A race.

Freshman Terry Bussey led the Bears with 22 points. Junior Donovan Crockett and sophomore L.T. Washington each dropped in 11 points.
