An airplane made an emergency landing in a field in Rusk County on Thursday afternoon after experiencing a mechanical malfunction shortly after taking off from East Texas Regional Airport in Longview.
“No injuries were reported by the occupants of the aircraft and no damage was noted other than the mechanical issue that forced the landing,” Rusk County Emergency Management office said in a posting on social media.
The plane took off from East Texas Regional Airport at 1:02 p.m. and was last heard from around 1:07 p.m. when it made an emergency landing on FM 2011 near Lake Cherokee, flight records indicate.
The 1964 Piper PA-28-140 is registered to Doan Tram of Midland, according to federal aviation records.
“The pilot reported losing power shortly after departing East Texas Regional Airport. The scene is controlled by Texas DPS until the FAA assumes the lead on an investigation,” Rusk County officials said.
