One driver is dead and the other is in critical condition at a local hospital after a head-on collision about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on Northeast Stallings Drive.

Police and firefighters arriving at the crash scene found two cars in the road that appeared to have collided head-on, said Assistant Police Chief Dan Taravella.

Neither vehicle had any occupants other than the driver.

Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace David Perkins conducted an inquest at the scene.

Nacogdoches Police identified the deceased driver as Leigh Allum, 53, of Nacogdoches. The second driver was Christopher Garsee, 43, of Nacogdoches.

NPD’s traffic division closed the roadway for about five hours to investigate the cause of the crash, but reopened in the early morning hours Thursday.
