A 3-year-old was hospitalized after being found submerged and unconscious at Splash Kingdom water park Friday evening.

Police and emergency medical personnel were called to the water park at 6:17 p.m. as the child was discovered and rescued by lifeguards.

“When officers arrived CPR was being administered by lifeguards,” police spokesman Sgt. Brett Ayres said in an email. “EMS transported the child to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.”

The child was listed in serious condition when they were transferred to a hospital out of town “for a higher level of care,” Ayres said.

An update on the child’s condition was not available Tuesday.

“An investigation into the circumstances of the drowning has begun by our detectives. As further information becomes available it will be released,” Ayres said.
