Please indulge me as for the next few weeks I will be promoting two very important events for Love INC. Both of these events are crucial to the existence of Love in the Name of Christ Nacogdoches. You are personally invited to attend as Love INC belongs to God and this community.

Thursday, Jan. 28, is our annual meeting. This year First United Methodist Church has graciously offered to host this event. The open board meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by a nice dinner and a short program.

Our annual audit will be presented, and present and future plans will be discussed. The community is invited as we hope many of our churches will be represented. Love INC continues to be a clearinghouse for all our churches. It is our desire to work closely with all our local churches and serve folks who are in need. Please call our office and let us know if you can make it. There is no cost to attend the meeting and the dinner, however, donations will be appreciated to cover some of the cost.

Friday, Feb. 12, will be one of the most significant and exciting events ever presented by Love INC. Hopefully you will begin to see signs around town about ticket sales. Hopefully your church is involved and you have heard about it from your church. The event is called CHAIRished Blessings and it will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Feb. 12, at the Nacogdoches Civic Center.

This event is basically a large silent auction but it has a twist! There will be 14 booths and venues placed around the large room in the Civic Center. Each booth will have its own theme and be staged with unique furniture and accessories. Some will be new, some will be antiques, and some will be re-purposed items that will be extraordinary!

There is a competition among the booth participants, and there will be winners! All tickets holders will have the opportunity to bid on items inside the booths. There will be other silent auction items outside these booths to bid on as well. There will be food, entertainment and loads of fun for the entire family! We have all the booth and venues secured and I will tell you that the competition has begun! Nacogdoches has some very creative people and they are going to show off their talents! You will not want to miss this event.

CHAIRished Blessings 2016 will be the first of its kind in Nacogdoches, and we are already planning CHAIRished Blessings 2017! It is already a hit! Sally Ann Swearengin, chairwoman, has put together a dynamic committee and they will leave no chair unturned! Call our office to buy your ticket or secure a table of eight. Seating is limited and tickets are going fast! A table of eight is $200 or individual tickets are $30 each. SFA students with an ID is $20. All proceeds will go to further serve those in our community who are in need.

If you are unable to attend, please feel free to send a donation and write CHAIRished Blessings in the memo line of your check as this will be our annual fundraiser.

Watch for updates at, and join our CHAIRished Blessings event.

Upcoming events:

• Jan. 28 — Annual meeting (public invited).

• Feb. 12 — CHAIRished Blessings Fundraiser at the Nacogdoches County Civic Center.

Current cases:

• A young employed single male got behind on rent due to his job closing down for the holidays. To help with future rental expenses he has taken in a roommate. He is asking for assistance to get caught up on his rent in the amount of $550.

• We are submitting this request from last week again. We have not filled this need yet. Our Home Visit team was especially concerned about the need for home safety modifications for a recent double amputee. The trailer home needs a threshold built at the front door and the bathroom door widened. At this time she is confined to the home because of accessibility issues. Without the modifications she cannot access the bathroom privately. Love INC has some limited funds to help with this project. We are asking for donations and a team of workers.

Other validated requests include sofas and love seats; pots and pans; electric space heaters; skillets; shower curtains; microwaves; floor lamps; twin size and bunk beds; small dining tables; and recliners.

Patti Goodrum is executive director of Love In the Name of Christ of Nacogdoches.
