Nacogdoches’ Heart of Pines Chorus will hold a free public concert March 20 in preparation for their annual competition in Houston.
The 7 p.m. concert takes place at North Street Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 3914 North St.
Performing before a live audience helps the group prepare for competition, member Melanie Cole said. A chapter of the Sweet Adelines International, they perform barbershop harmony style and compete against other choruses in the region every March in Houston. Heart of the Pines earned the Audience Choice Award in the open division of the competition in 2022.
This year, they plan to compete in the regular competition with the songs, “I Love to Hear That Old Barbershop Style” and a ballad, “When I Fall in Love.”
The 2023 regional competition is March 23-25 at the Hilton Houston North.
Under the direction of Teresa “TJ” Reed, Heart of the Pines practices Monday evenings at the North Street Church of Christ and performs at local events throughout the year.
