The Nacogdoches High School Alumni Association will present Sharon Brown Keith as its Distinguished Alumnus at the Dragon football game on Friday.
She graduated from NHS in 1981, where she was a cheerleader for all four years and head cheerleader her senior year. She served on the Student Council, where she was secretary for one year and vice president her senior year.
She was a member of the National Honor Society and the Chorale and Notables singing groups. Other honors at NHS included Jr Class Favorite, Most School Spirit her senior year, and Who’s Who at Nacogdoches High School.
Keith graduated from Texas A&M University in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in education, curriculum and instruction. While at A&M she was freshman aide in the Student Government Association, Senior Class Historian and summer intern for Sen. Lloyd Bentsen. She then graduated from UT Tyler with a masters in school counseling.
She taught high school English, history, and speech for 16 years, sponsoring the cheerleaders, drill team, UIL, National Honor Society, Beta Club, and Student Council during those years.
She has been a school counselor for 20 years and has been in West Rusk ISD since 2014. Sharon is a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She published a memoir “Mockingbird Moments” in 2017, a biography “Creek to Creek: the Life and Legacy of Charles Raymond Bright” in 2019, and a novel in 2019 “A Southern Girl Re-Belles.”
She has been married to Brian Keith for 35 years. They have two sons, Chris Keith, account executive at Goosehead Insurance in Houston, and Charles Keith, Sales and Operation Leadership program with Moore Supply in Tyler. Charles and Kaitlyn Keith have two children, Cooper and Harper. Her brother Greg Brown is also a NHS alum. Her mother Claudette Brown is a retired NHS teacher.
