With the Fourth of July holiday on the immediate horizon and the number of cases of student-athletes testing positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus across the state on the increase, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) issued a statement to all athletics directors on Wednesday recommending they consider shutting down voluntary summer workouts until July 13.

All three local schools that participate in football — Nacogdoches, Garrison and Cushing — have confirmed that they were going to adhere to the suggestion by the UIL.
