The Chireno Lady Owls went on the road for their softball season opener Tuesday night, rolling over Brookeland, 7-1.
Alaina Goodwin picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Owls, going the distance, while allowing one run on four hits, with five strikeouts and four walks in seven innings.
Offensively, Brooke Copeland led five Chireno players with multiple-hit games, finishing the contest with a perfect 4-for-4 day, driving in a run. Nelly Vargas went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and a pair of runs scored. Halle Emmons plated and went 3-for-4, while Emma Bennett went 2-for-3, tagged a double, drove in a run and scored twice. Alana Caskey finished the contest 2-for-4, with a run driven in and two runs scored.
Chireno’s Jessie Durrett went 1-for-4, with an RBI and Jaleigh Johnson singled in five at-bats. Also contributing to the attack were Dacey Coleman, Kinley Brown and Hanna Smith.
The Lady Owls will go on the road today, battling Woden at 5 p.m.
