FRISCO — Sophomore forward Aiyana Johnson has been named the Southland Player of the Week for her performance last week, per a release from the conference office on Monday. The Lee’s Summit, Missouri native earns her second weekly accolade of the 2019-20 season.
Johnson averaged 12.5 points and 9.5 rebounds on 58 percent shooting from the field in a pair of victories over UCA and UIW this week, leading the ’Jacks to a pair of victories to keep pace in the league standings. Her 13-points and nine rebound in just 22 minutes against UCA led the ’Jacks in a demolition of the nation’s 12th best scoring defense, hanging 102 points on the Sugar Bears. Johnson then turned in a double-double effort, her sixth of the season, against the Cardinals of UIW on Saturday, tallying 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Johnson’s averages of 8.6 rebounds and 13.1 points per game rank second and eighth, respectively, in the conference rankings, while her overall field goal percentage of .561 is the second-best mark in the league as well.
